This session aims to provide an overview of learning disabilities, covering the history and a focus on the Learning Disabilities Association of Canada (LDAC) definition of LD and its implications on student learning. Participants will learn about key milestones and influential research that has shaped our current understanding. There will also be a focus on the brain, specifically the neurological factors that impact the cognitive processes. Lastly, participants will take away some key evidence-based instructional approaches, assistive technology and accommodations that can create inclusive learning environments for all students. By the end of the session, participants should be able to answer the following: “How do I know this is a learning disability?”  “What can I do to help, given my classroom context?” and “How do I know it is working?”.
