Join Michelle and Miriam to explore how sentence structure and syntax develop from simple to complex, helping elementary students express their ideas with clarity. Together, we will explore writing development through the Layers of Writing graphic and then examine English sentence structure and syntax in depth. We will also consider the role of vocabulary and how academic language can support students in building more complex sentences to communicate their ideas. Throughout the session series, we will align this work with the ELAL curriculum.

Session 1: Overview of writing development and writing a complete thought
Session 2: Adding details to sentences
Session 3: Combining ideas with conjunctions, and adding complexity to student writing
